Re-establishing Routine

Once again, I find myself attempting to establish a weekly routine to keep me motivated. I find it difficult to get any writing done if I don’t have it scheduled somehow. I’m also better about exercising when I have a routine in place. So this morning I decided to combine the two. After the kids were on the bus to school, I drove to Panera Bread, parked, then walked at a nearby trail for my 30 minutes of exercise. Then I got my backpack out of my car and sat inside Panera with a cup of coffee and my laptop to write for 30 minutes. It wasn’t a lot of time, but I told myself that it was better than no time at all, and I got a surprising amount done!

This is my biggest problem, I think. I have in my head that I need a large block of time set aside to be able to write. But even 15-30 minutes is more than I’ve been doing. If I’m going to get get this Gothic Romance story written, it may have to be in 30 minute chunks, but at least it will get done.

Honestly, I didn’t think I’d be writing here on the blog today, since I dedicated my 30 minutes to the story. But my son hurt his finger and we canceled guitar lessons and my daughter wanted to give doing homework at Panera Bread a try (I told her how it helps me get writing done). So I brought my laptop. Could I be writing on the story? Maybe. But I kind of feel like I would like some feedback from Friend A before I go further. And I thought it would be a good opportunity to try to revive the blog, since it’s been neglected for so long.

So here’s my current thought/plan:

DayExerciseWriting
MondayCG – 5:30-6:30
TuesdayWalk – 8:00-8:45Meet Friend A – 11:00-?
WednesdayCG – 5:30-6:30Panera 1:30-3:30
ThursdayWalk – 8:00-8:45Panera 8:45-9:30
FridayCG – 5:30-6:30
Saturday/SundayVariesVaries

I’m still trying to figure out what time to write on Monday/Friday. I’d like to do writing sprints with a couple of different friends, but need to check in with them on times. I want to try to write at least 30 minutes every week day. I know that having friends to hold me accountable helps with exercise, and I know the same will be true about writing if I can get this set up.

Oops. I forgot to actually post this on Thursday. That’s what I get for trying to blog while also communicating with CG about unfreezing my account and my MIL to try to coordinate dinner. I didn’t do any writing yesterday (read a book), but hopefully I’ll do some later today!
