I love having a routine. I like being able to shift into autopilot an know what will be coming next. It doesn’t have to be the same every day, but a weekly routine is very helpful to me. Now that the kids are back in school, I’m establishing my new routine.

M/W/F – Wake up at 5:15, dress for water aerobics, make lunches, deliver kids to band practice at 6:30, sit at a cafe drinking iced coffee and a jumbo sausage roll (the owner knows my usual already!) to plan for the week, write a blog post, or work on a story, head to pool at 8:30, class at 9:00, shower at 10:00, grocery store (Mondays), lunch and flex time until 3:30 when I need to pick up the kids from school.

Tu – Wake up at 5:15, dress, make lunches, deliver kids to band practice at 6:30, spend the rest of the day reading, relaxing, and just being without guilt.

Th – Wake up at 5:15, dress, make lunches, deliver kids to band practice at 6:30, sit at cafe with my usual to write or blog until 9:30, work, pick up kids, feed them dinner, attend Storytelling class at 7:30.

The afternoons are a bit more loosely scheduled now that I don’t have the library to go to (they are moving to a temporary location while renovations are being done, but are still in the process). I’m certain that will change in September when I will have my office to escape to. I won’t feel obligated to purchase anything to get work done. It’s going to open up a LOT more writing time. And since my Book in 90 program starts in September, that is perfect! I’ll even have a place to do the video calls without disturbing anyone!

I always feel so much better when I have a routine. I get more done and feel better about myself. In the one week the kids have been in school I’ve managed to write three blog posts and work on my Storytelling story. I think sometimes I feel shame that I don’t have a “regular” job that takes up most of my day, so knowing that I’m accomplishing at least a little something on a regular basis eases some of that shame. I’m hopeful that I will get a lot written in the months to come. I know I made tons more progress in my writing before my routine was interrupted by Spring Break, Adepticon, and a broken foot last spring. Here’s hoping I can get some of that mojo back!
