Friday Prompt – 5/29/2026

Daily writing prompt
If you had an unlimited budget for 24 hours, what would you do?

Every day, WordPress offers up a writing prompt. You can see today’s right above this paragraph and the link will take you to other WordPress bloggers that have answered the question. I thought it might be fun to start answering these. If you have a question or prompt you’d like me to answer, let me know in the comments and I’ll answer.

Now, on with my answer!

The first thing I’d do is send a boatload of money to certain people in my life that struggle financially. I have at least four people that I’m close to that have to ask for assistance on a regular basis and it breaks my heart that I can’t make that go away. I do what I can for them already, but I’d love to be able to do more.

I’d pay off our house. If I only have the unlimited budget for 24 hours, it wouldn’t be possible to schedule renovations, since it would be impossible to pay up front, but no longer having a house payment would help us afford those a bit easier.

I’d give extra money to the organizations I already give to. Trevor Project, All Community Outreach, my church, Blackland Prairie Raptors, and the World Wildlife Fund. I’d probably look into giving to new charities as well.

I’d give to the political candidates that align with my values. I’m really hoping that we can turn Texas (and more of the US) blue in this year’s elections. And to that end, I might purchase a home, sight unseen, in another country (probably Ireland) just in case that doesn’t happen and we feel the need to get away from the hateful legislations that the current party is pushing.

I could potentially book a vacation, if all of the payments were upfront. Most of the things I’d want to do with money would require having access over a longer period of time than just 24 hours. Travel is definitely on that list.

I’m sure my kids would appreciate it if we purchased another car. Currently, they have to share. It works for now, but it will eventually become more inconvenient. My guess is that we’d purchase a car for my husband and let the kids use the one he has now. There’s no need for either of them to have a brand new vehicle.

It would probably be a good idea to invest a good chunk of money, if that’s permitted with this unlimited budget. That would open up the possibility of more money for after the 24 hours, which would be much more useful. It’s not like 24 hours of unlimited funds would mean we could stop working, since it would not last. But using what we have that day to set us up for down the road would make it easier to retire when that time comes.

I haven’t read any of the other answers yet, but I imagine some people say they want to purchase big, expensive items. But something to keep in mind is that many of those items require maintenance or other expenses after the initial purchase. As much as I would love to purchase an RV for our family, it would require a place to store it when not in use, gas and maintenance, and many other expenses that I’m not aware of due to never having owned an RV. The 24 hours restriction kind of limits what would be reasonable. Which is why I feel that giving money away would be the best use of that short window. I’d rather take care of other people than have more “things” anyway.
